Anam : Ait | Soul : Place
introduction
Waterford visual artist, Christine O'Brien Shanahan, has been
creating art works since graduating from
art college in 1985. She completed an MA degree in Arts and Heritage Management (Hons) in 2009. With visual artwork in public, private and corporate collections locally and abroad, landscape continues to be an integral element in her work, with concepts of place and time recurring.
Chris has collaborated with sound artist miXile on Performance, Installation and Sound Art projects since 1985, some artworks last five minutes, (ignite 4) other 'slow art' pieces have been on-going over a number of years.
"The spirit of a place, time, landscape can be absorbed into your soul, making a lasting impression on your psyche. Memory of place can be created in a micro second or slowly seep into your senses and last a lifetime."
"Landscapes are created from rock, soil, geographical formations, plants, trees.
Features record the passage of time, the presence of man.
Walls mark boundaries and common ground...
It is colour, light, shape and contour that resonate in our memories."
